Another wet race but a podium for Diccox

The WPR team arrived at Castle Combe for the televised Motors TV day with their usual complement of Formula Ford drivers - Josh Fisher (Class A) and Steve Bracegirdle, Andrew Higginbottom and Pete Diccox(Class C) in their Van Diemens.

Morning practice was dry and saw Josh qualify fifth, only 4 tenths off pole with Andrew and Steve going well in the 1m 14s to line up 3rd and 4th in Class. Pete only managed a single lap in practice and so had to start near the back of the field.

Unfortunately the race was wet and a poor start dropped Josh down to seventh at the end of the first lap. Although hampered by a suspected damper problem, Josh was able to climb back to fourth by the finish at the end of 9 laps. Andrew stalled on the line and was unable to re-start the car, which was pushed away. Steve had a spin at Bobbies and bent his floor tray resulting in his retirement. Pete soldiered on the the finish and earned the final podium position in Class C.

Guy Parr (Fiesta) and Steve Bracegirdle (Mini) were also out in the Saloon Car race. In practice Guy struggled to get a clear lap (in a huge 40 car field) and then a safety car reduced his practice to a mere 4 laps so 28th on the grid was the best he could manage. Steve was a little further ahead in 25th.

A good start saw Guy make up places in the early running and a few more later in the race to come home in an unlapped 19th with Steve a lap down in 25th.
