A WPR Class C podium lock out at Combe

The WPR team had its full complement of Class C Formula Ford 1600s out for the Castle Combe round on July 18th with championship leader, Josh Fisher (Hudson-Evans' Reynard 89FF) being joined by Andrew Higginottom (Van Diemen RF88) and Steve Bracegirdle and Pete Diccox in their RF89s.

Just before practice started Josh's fuel tank was found to have a split and so it was promptly taken round to the Wiltshire College's premises to be welded up. Unfortunately Josh missed practice so had to start at the back of the full 34 car grid. However, once the race got under way this problem was quickly overcome as he came round at the end of the first lap in 21st place and leading Class C! Despite a safety car period Josh continued to make progress through the filed to finish tenth and take Class C fastest lap and retain the lead in the Championship.

Andrew continued his run of good showings to qualify on Class C pole and take a comfortable second in the race 18 seconds behind the flying Fisher. Steve and Pete had qualified a bit further back and had quite different races. Pete made his customary storming start to make up many places while Steve and other Class C competitors fell back to begin a race long duel which saw Steve claim the final Class C podium place by a couple of tenths after Pete had faded towards the end.
