Oh so close for Josh Fisher

The WPR team began their 2014 campaign on the Oulton Park Fosters Circuit in pursuit of the Avon Tyres FF Northern Championship with Josh Fisher (aboard the Hudson-Evans Reynard 89FF) and Steve Bracegirdle, returning to the FF cockpit after his disappointing end to the 2013 season at Castle Combe, in his rebuilt Van Diemen RF89, both in the Pre '90 race. They were joined by Calum McHale in his Mygale SJ01 for the Post '89 race.

Practice was OK with Josh lining up 4th, Steve 19th and Calum 17th but with all three drivers having lap times disallowed for exceeding the track limits - the MSA's 'new for 2014' ruling.

In the first Pre '90 race Josh was out with clutch problems on Lap 4 but the team got to work, diagnosed the problem and had it sorted in time for race 2. Steve was slowly getting used to driving a single seater again and improved on his starting position to come home 14th. In the first Post '89 race Calum drove consistently and improved his placing to finish 12th.

The second Pre'90 race saw the potential of the Fisher/Reynard demonstrated. Starting from the back of the grid, Josh worked his way through the field to challenge for second place just 4 laps from the end only to lose his nose cone and drop back to fourth (and third in Class). Fastest lap showed that a win was possible and the team are looking forward to the rest of the Oulton season with plenty of optimism. Steve had another steady run to finish 15th and got more laps under his belt.

In the second post '89 race Calum finished 14th but was going faster and gaining confidence with his best lap half a second faster than in Race 1.

The team thanks Rachel Bourne of Bourne Photographic for the excellent photos.
