Class saloon podium for Guy Parr

First up for the WPR team was Guy Parr in his Fiesta for the Castle Combe Saloon Car championship race. A good practice session saw Car number 13 qualify thirteenth and fourth in Class B. A good start and a race long duel with a Saxo yielded a good third in class and only 0.5s away from a second place.

The WPR team had three cars entered in the GT race and were evenly spaced out in qualifying with Guy Parr (7th), Des Andrews (10th) and Steve Bracegirdle (13th). This was Steve’s best practice performance in his Nemesis and was still short of dry laps in the car following gearbox problems during the pre race test the preceding Thursday.

Guy and Steve made good starts with Steve getting ahead of Des on Lap 2. This lasted until the final Lap when Steve had a big off at Tower when the brake peadl went to the floor leaving Guy to come home seventh (4th in Class B) and Des in tenth place.

Although Olly Bull had his rebuilt Swift SC92 out in pre race testing he decided not to enter this race which left Pete Diccox as the sole team representative and after qualifying 21st and making his customary good start he ran well, holding third in Class C, until the last Lap when a broken piston ring caused a smoking engine and forced him to back off.
