A class win for Wayne Rushworth

With just a couple of Van Diemen Formula Fords (Steve Bracegirdle in Class A and Wayne Poole in Class C) and Wayne Rushworth's MG ZR to look after, team boss, Wayne, was able to concentrate on the driving in his bid for more Castle Combe championship success having won Class B back in 2000.

The day was to prove challenging with alternating damp and wet conditions throughout.

The Formula Ford practice session saw Wayne qualify ninth for both races and second in Class C while Steve was close behind in tenth and twelth. Race One was fairly uneventful with both drivers maintaining position and running close together with Steve getting past on Lap 7 only to have the position recersed on Lap 12. They finished as they started with Wayne taking second in Class C.

Race Two followed much the same pattern but with Steve getting ahead at the start only for Wayne to get past a lap later and make good progress until the drying track established the status quo. They finished ninth and tenth again with Wayne second in Class C.

Wayne Rushworth had a good practice session qualifying tenth and eighth for the two races, second and first in Class C respectively. In Race One, after a poor start Wayne quickly got on with it and took the Class C lead on Lap 2 and a good drive saw him come home sixth overall and win Class C. Race Two started damp but quickly became very wet and Wayne had a difficult race, falling back tofinish eighth overall and fourth in Class C. The highlight, on a slightly drying track, was a brave attempt to take back a place around the outside at Camp on the last lap!
