Another win for Walker

Castle Combe's mid summer two day meeting saw Wayne Poole Racing enter Formula Ford front runner, Alex Walker and regular Class D stand out, Sam Mitchell, in their regular Classic Auction Review backed Van Diemen RF01 and Merlyn MK20a respectively. They were joined by Class C contender, Tommy Mac, in the Van Diemen RF89 along with Graham Cox in his Renault Clio for the pair of Hot Hatch races.

Qualifying for the two Formula Ford races was limited to just 5 damp laps and Alex qualified 4th and 5th while Tommy posted a strong 9th (fastest Class C) and 13th (2nd Class C) and Sam well up both grids in the only Class D car present.

In Race 1 Alex had a race long duel with Felix Fisher for third place but lost out on the final lap to finish fourth a couple of tenths adrfit. Starting just ahead of his Class C rival, David Cobbold, Tommy dropped back behind a fast starting Sam Mitchell and tracked Cobbold to the finish and take 2nd in Class C while Sam went on to finish a good 12th.

In Race 2 Alex ran fourth for the opening laps and moved up on laps three and five into 2nd place. He shadowed leader, Felix Fisher, to the end finishing a tenth in arrears with fastest lap but was promoted to the win after Fisher was hit with a one place penalty. Tommy got ahead of his rival at the start but a poor second lap saw him drop a few places to finish 12th (just behind Sam) and another 2nd in Class C.

In the Hot Hatch championship races Graham qualified the Clio in 22nd place for both races and finishing 18th and 15th in each.
