A podium for Ben Mitchell at Combe opener

The Wayne Poole Racing team arrived at Castle Combe for the opening event of the 2023 season with a slightly different look from previous years - three Class A Formula Fords. Ben Mitchell was in his familiar Classic Auction Review backed Van Diemen JL16 and was joined by James Colborn in his Van Diemen RF07 and Steve Bracegirdle, moving up to Class A, in a Van Diemen RF01.

With two championship races on offer, wet qualifying saw times well off the pace with Ben third, James 14th and Steve 18th. Fortunately, it dried up for the races and, in the opener all three WPR drivers pretty much held their qualifying positions with Ben taking third, James 13th and Steve 17th. In Race 2 Ben again ran third in the opening laps but dropped to sixth at the end while James improved to 12th and Steve to 16th.

In the CCRC Saloon Car championship races Graham Cox was out in his WPR run Renault Clio and qualified 18th. Graham went on to finish 15th in Race 1 and 13th in Race 2.
