The test day at Combe on September 23rd was set to begin a busy few days for WPR. Out testing were Don Boyack and Steve Bracegirdle in their Van Diemen RF88s and newcomer Andy Steele (pictured right) also out in one of the team's RF88s.Steve was getting in some pre race testing ahead of a week-end trip to the Ty Croes circuit on Anglesey where he was to be joined by the two GTs of Guy Parr and Des Andrews. It was a successful morning for the Bracegirdles with Steve finishing his test intact (despite a couple of spins on the damp track) and wife, Denise successfully passing her ARDS test. Andy Steele, a former sprinter and hillclimber in a Caterham, was having his first run in a single seater to see whether it suited him. After quickly getting into the 1m 19s the answer would seem to be 'it suits you sir!' In the afternoon the forecast rain appeared and the first to be caught out was poor Don Boyack who lost grip over a bump at Folly and sideswiped the barriers taking a couple of corners off. A sad end to the day.
